Everything old is new again. Especially when it comes to fashion. First, the 80s came roaring back on runways. Followed by the 90s. Now the early aughts are trending. So we aren’t at all surprised to see butterfly prints popping up everywhere.
For Spring 2022, Blumarine’s collection is dripping in Y2K nostalgia. Fortunately, the label put a fresh spin on many of the decade’s archetypes. Other brands got in on the action. Alberta Ferretti offered a sophisticated upgrade with everything from a butterfly-topped jumpsuit to a monarch-inspired long cami.
The “retro” patterns can be found on dresses, jeans, blouses and footwear. There are even quite a few accessories. We’re talking bucket hats, scarves, jewelry, etc. Although we advise not overdoing it. If you’re flaunting the insects up top, skip them below to avoid an infestation.
Designer pieces are certainly not cheap. (See the cool cami we mentioned previously.) But they’re definitely worth it. But if your budget is tight, you can find plenty of affordable alternatives. You can favor classic colorful patterns that feature actual butterflies. Or embrace more abstract prints that aren’t obvious nods to the beloved creatures.
