Sustainable fashion is so much more than just a movement; more and more brands are leaning towards an ethical approach to creations for the long-term. And some are zeroing in on one of our most precious and beloved natural resources: the oceans.
From Londre to Solgaard, a number of fashion labels from all over the world are coming up with incredible strategies to save the oceans and keep them free from waste. Strategies like using recycled shells and joining hands with researchers and scientists show that these brands are not playing around when it comes to keeping the sea clean.

Adidas and Parlay for the Oceans
In 2015, Adidas joined forces with Parlay for Oceans to create sneakers out of recycled waste from the sea. By 2017, the collaboration sold a million sneakers. And now they have come up with a more extensive strategy called Parley A.I.R. Strategy, which stands for "avoid, intercept, and redesign." Their aim is to stop plastic before it enters the ocean, and they are driving eco-innovation around products and materials.

Pangaia
Through their philanthropy platform Missions, Pangaia encourages active involvement from people from all over the globe. "We partner with the world’s leading research institutions, laboratories and scientists to bring to life the latest problem-solving innovations in materials science through our products. We pioneer breakthrough vegan technologies like wildflower down, use bio-based fibers like seaweed yarn, as well as materials made from recycled plastic and garment waste," Pangaia writes on its site.

Solgaard
Solgaard exclusively uses recycled ocean plastic in their products. "We're taking plastic out of our waterways, and upcycling it to make travel goods for our fellow global citizens," reads its site . The brand also released a very Instagrammable line of backpacks made of 5 pounds of upcycled waste.

Everlane
Fast-fashion label Everlane supported The Surfrider Foundation’s efforts to remove 20,000 pounds of plastic from the beach by donating the profits made on Black Friday to the environmental foundation. Everlane pledges to eliminate all virgin plastic in its product supply chain by the year 2021. The brand also launched a new collection made from upcycled plastic materials.

Londré
Londré's recycled compression bodysuits are already all the rage. The Vancouver-based label uses material made from plastic bottles along with an eco-friendly material called chitosante, which is made out of by shells. Chitosante is naturally anti-bacterial, non-toxic, and also surprisingly long-lasting. Londré also claims that their bodywear products kept 25,956 recycled plastic bottles off beaches and streets.
