Designer Hedi Slimane is known for putting his (sometimes controversial) signature on the fashion brands for which he designs. At Yves Saint Laurent, he famously dropped the “Yves” and renamed the brand Saint Laurent. Now, as the newest artistic and creative director of Celine, he didn’t waste time making changes, including deleting all previous posts on the brand’s Instagram and dropping Céline’s accent for a more streamlined logo.
Celine’s e-commerce site also got a makeover and the relaunched celine.com is back online with Slimane’s first collection, including the sure-to-be-iconic Celine 16 bag. According to Séverine Merle, chief executive officer of Celine, the bag represents “the ultimate symbol of Hedi Slimane’s vision for Celine.”
Slimane’s new classic handbag comes in either medium or small and is made from leather, crocodile or lizard. Prices range from $4,150 (calfskin) to $37,200 (crocodile).
