Your cutoffs have probably been getting a real workout this summer thanks to all the scorching temps. Whether teamed with your fave white tee or crop top, they’re seasonal staples that will never go out of style. But designers have been going to new lengths to offer something to offset those teeny shorts.
If the Spring 2018 collections are any indication, Bermuda shorts are about to hit critical mass. Virgil Abloh sent out suit-worthy Bermudas that we wish were office-appropriate. While the longer-length shorts were met above the knee by statement boots at Y/Project. And Tibi was Bermuda central with versions in practically every color of the rainbow and denim.
Nina Ricci worked bike shorts into its Parisian presentation, but it was the outsize, high-waisted Bermudas that caught our attention. N°21 supplied preppy pairs perfect for weekends in the Hamptons. Atlein went safari chic with matching jackets that’ll look just as good on the streets.
When it comes to styling the versatile Bermuda shorts, you can copy the runways or play it cool by adding in your favorite tie-front top or swimsuit-as-shirt pick. Keep in mind that Bermudas can vary widely in both length and fit — some hit just above the knee, others go way past, while some are cut slim and others are so baggy you can’t always tell they’re shorts (we once again refer you to Nina Ricci). Basically, tuck in your tops or keep them cropped the roomier the style. For the skinny, above-the-knee variety, more structured tops work best.
Ahead, 17 Bermuda shorts to stretch out summer a little longer.
