We’ll admit, we took some pleasure out of seeing Bella Hadid shoot her sister Gigi a serious look as they walked the H&M Studio Spring 2017 runway to the (live) voice of Bella’s ex-beau the Weeknd. However, that little bit of drama took a backseat to the see-now-buy-now collection itself. According to H&M Creative Advisor Ann-Sofie Johansson, a Cuban ballet school recently discovered by the H&M design team inspired the line. (Mental note: Must go to Cuba ASAP.) The result? A collection built for those who are aching for spring, whether they miss sundresses or the basketball court. Frilly pinafore frocks hit the (notably diverse) runway alongside cropped anoraks and feminine tops done in sporty materials like nylon. Statement socks and silky trousers came emblazoned with the word “love.”
“I think we all need love now,” Johansson told Fashionista, “Sometimes it feels weird to print ‘love,’ it feels a bit cheesy sometimes, but now it felt really… it’s a strong word and a positive message.” Yet again, politics enter the fashion realm.
But let’s not get sidetracked. Shop our favorite picks from the collection now — they’re selling out fast.
