The venerable Tim Gunn once said, “There is no reason larger women can’t look just as fabulous as all other women. The key is the harmonious balance of silhouette, proportion and fit, regardless of size or shape.” Prabal Gurung’s new Lane Bryant collaboration would surely get Gunn’s vote of approval. It’s one of the most stylish plus-size collections we’ve seen in quite some time. “We designed for the same woman we always design for,” Gurung told Vogue of the collection.
Gurung has always been ahead of the curve. He’s a former CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund champion and winner of the 2011 CFDA Swarovski Award for Womenswear. He’s praised for his structured yet feminine silhouettes, dreamy prints and ability to add cool new dimensions to office dressing. He makes it a point to offer his runway collections in sizes 0 to 22. (Not that buyers often take him up on that offer.)
The 20-piece collection is filled with sexy-yet-sophisticated styles perfect for this weird, somewhere-between-winter-and-spring weather. This being Lane Bryant, the clothes are available in sizes 10 to 28 and the only piece anywhere near the $400 range is a cropped biker jacket. Otherwise, prices hover around $100.
