Spring Bling! 10 New Ways to Wear Chokers in 2015

Chokers have a long and storied history. Before teeny boppers who read Tiger Beat were tattooing on neon temporaries in the 90s, debutantes in the 40s were showing them off at society luncheons and charity galas. In the 1800s, Alexandra of Denmark was influential in expanding the trend due to her insecurities over a neck scar. She reportedly drew inspiration from traditional Indian dress in Bombay, where she often traveled as the reigning Empress of India. Go even further back, you’ll learn Native Americans wore them to protect their necks and their spirits as well as to symbolize rank.

For Spring 2015, designers collectively sparked a revival on the runways in Paris, New York, London and Milan. Ralph Lauren was a standout this season; he created a multi-tiered, bejeweled choker reminiscent of the beautiful bijoux worn by African tribes of yore. To see how Lauren’s contemporaries brought back the trend, from Givenchy’s elaborate affair to Marios Schwab’s romance with minimalism, click on the slideshow below.
