While Chanel may have spearheaded the style during Karl Lagerfeld’s Pre-Fall showing at the Métiers d’Art in Dallas, WGSN’s denim team began tracking the denim western jacket trend at summer music festivals as part of the 90s redux. Since then, the trend has grown exponentially, picking up new inspirations along the way. This past month, influential shows including Ashish, Richard Nicoll and MM6 Maison Martin Margiela all backed this trend for the fall with cowboy-esque inspired furs, suede and military shapes to offer a refreshed incarnation of the western jacket. In New York, we saw the trend at 3.1 Phillip Lim, Alexander Wang and Tommy Hilfiger.
Saddle up and see our top takes on the trend, including a few from the Spring 2014 shows to illustrate just how versatile this fresh denim take is for both seasons. Plus, some western jackets to add to your wardrobe now.
