When first presented with the question, “Does your style need a revamp?” I guffawed as I looked in my closet with a “Who? Me?!” expression. I’d recently completed a ruthless round of spring cleaning, sparing no expense: tops I hadn’t worn in years, undies with elastic springing from the seams, holey jeans (not the trendy kind) and a clutch I swore would be a signature style item but somehow still had on the original tags.
I was operating with full wardrobe efficiency, but as I stood smugly confronted with the surviving hangers, my eyes glazed over at the rows of basics, neutrals and sea of solids. My mission suddenly became clear: GRAPHICS. They’re everywhere this season — except in my closet. Read on to see how I attempt pattern prowess and kick solid colors to the curb.

Style Revamp: Graphics
-
Day 1
Starting off nice and easy with this Susana Monaco graphic silk dress. I’m getting so many compliments already! Graphics seem to be a conversation piece, a “print” accessory just like a bold necklace or statement bag. I guess I’m still a little gun shy on rocking full-on pattern, so I paired it with this cropped black vest, wide silver cuff and western flat booties.

Day 2
I saw this graphic blazer hanging in the window of a vintage shop on Elizabeth Street and had to try it on! The print resembles something Aztec but the bias cut still feels modern. I paired it with a more subtly-striped summer dress in the same muted tone. Normally, I’d pair this dress with a black blazer but this feels "revamped" I guess? Wedge heel biker boots complete the look.

Day 3
I’m slowly coming around to this whole graphic mindset so I’m branching out (hey hey!) with two patterns paired together. This polka dot Elizabeth and James silk piece (it’s actually a onesie) with the print shorts I bought at Anthropologie at the end of last season? I think it works! I slapped on a red, mod cuff and then slipped on these suede fringe Sam Edelman boots.

Day 4
So I’m realizing my inner potential for prints, but also my unconscious love for blacks, browns and whites. Gah. My last three outfits have been depressingly void of color, so I wanted to go bold for Day Four. Rushed for time in the morning (hence the wet hair), I threw on this blue-hued Partimi silk dress and paired it with a pair of sneakers my boyfriend just brought back from a trip to Barcelona. I love the black/red print detail around the ankle! Last, a pop of green on my wrist rounds out the look.
