To no one’s surprise, Meghan Markle is paving the way for cause-driven indie labels and eco-friendly brands. The duchess of woke fashion has been consistently wearing pieces from lesser-known, independent brands committed to repurposing, zero-waste production and minimizing ecological footprints on the environment.
During her much-publicized Australia and New Zealand tour, Meghan showed off her impressive wardrobe featuring sustainable fashion pieces. She also wore eco-friendly pieces to visit Sussex and to the opening of the Invictus Games. And, of course, once Meghan wears anything, the products go flying off the shelves and she’s obviously helping more and more people take an interest in ethical fashion.
The duchess loves Stella McCartney, the most famous sustainable fashion label, and even wore one of the designer’s creations for her wedding reception. But she has also been sporting designs by relatively smaller brands from around the world that focus on environmentally sound creations. Outland Denim
For her arrival in Dubbo, Australia, Meghan Markle chose black jeans made by Australian label Outland Denim. The brand was launched by James Bartle when he came across a group of anti-trafficking activists and further traveled to Asia to understand how helpless young women are being lured into the trade every day. The brand intends to provide sustainable career paths to vulnerable women and also uses organic cotton and eco-friendly raw materials. The $195 jeans the duchess wore almost immediately sold out on Outland Denim's U.S. website.

Reformation
Meghan wore the breezy $218 Pineapple Dress from the brand Reformation for her trip to Fraser Island. Reformation is the It brand of the moment since it's energy efficient, has a zero-waste focus, composts organic waste and is also very cautious about minimizing its footprints on the environment. Rothy's
Instagram's favorite sustainable brand, Rothy's, got Meghan's approval. The duchess wore its Black Solid flats for a walk at a Melbourne beach with her husband. Rothy's intends to use single-use products and repurpose post-use plastic bottles to make the most of its shoes.

Gabriela Hearst
Right before her pregnancy was announced, the duchess visited her namesake Sussex wearing a fierce leather skirt and carrying Gabriela Hearst's Demi Satin Tote. The fortune cookie-shaped number is named after Demi Moore (who carried the bag to Princess Eugenie's wedding) and is produced using ethical resources. The products used in making the bag are recyclable and even the packaging is decomposable.
