Catching the latest episode of the CW’s Arrow, I see not much has changed. As of late, however, she’s put that style savvy to good use, launching her very own fashion site, TOMBOYKC.com. I caught up with Cassidy to learn more.
Julie Bensman: Congrats on the launch of site! How did the idea come about?
Katie Cassidy: My girlfriend, Lynsey, and I loved the concept that fashion could be more than one thing. She and I both have the same pieces in our closets; we just wear them different ways. We believe in mixing highs and lows — I think a lot of women identify with that. Wear what you want, as long as you feel confident. Personal style should be just that: personal. As for me, I guess I’ve always had this attitude about fashion where I don’t give a shit what people think about what I’m wearing. It’s my creative outlet.
JB: How is your character’s style on Arrow similar to your own?
KC: Laurel is a strong, independent, smart, working woman who wears her heart on her sleeve. I feel like I can identify with her more then any other character I’ve played. She’s honest and has a good heart, but she’s tough.
JB: When not acting, how do you like to spend your free time?
KC: Shopping. Writing. Shopping.
JB: What would we be surprised to know about you?
KC: I go to bed very early. It’s been an ongoing joke between my close friends. When they ask me to go out, my response is usually, “I would love to, but you guys don’t go out until like 10 p.m. That’s so late!” I can’t help it.
JB: I hear you, girl. Which items do you never leave the house without?
JB: What’s the best style advice you’ve ever received?
KC: You basically want to look like it’s accidentally brilliant. Like, oops, I picked all this random shit off the floor and threw it on with a topknot while rushing out the door… and it’s somehow genius.
JB: If you could wear one outfit for the rest of your life, what would it be?
KC: A chunky, oversized sweater; tee by Alexander Wang; beat-up J. Brand jeans and a rad pair of sneakers. I’d also probably have a pair of stilettos in my Celine handbag.
JB: What’s the last thing you Googled?
KC: “Tom Ford Career Path.” I’m trying to educate myself!
