Jean Charles de Castelbajac Fall 2011 Runway Review

Leave it to Jean Charles de Castelbajac to pick up on London’s dalmatian and plaid trends this season with yet another spot-on collection. De Castelbajac’s imagination is boundless and his level of ingenuity consistently captivates, no matter how many times we see him influenced by Disney characters or his other favored inspiration point, Lego. Both aforementioned points of inspiration showed their influence this season alongside a running surrealism influence.

The show was, in fact, titled “Woman/Ray”, a play on Man Ray, making it fitting that some of the most notable pieces included a sculpted hat and cocktail dresses printed with Man Ray photographs and a leather top fashioned to look like hands were covering the model’s breasts. Skulls and skeletons also made reoccurring appearances alongside more staple separates and outerwear including a beautiful coat designed with a high collar and wide sleeves.
