Who can focus on the films when there are so many outfit changes to be made? The bold-face names at this year’s Cannes Film Festival have made so many red carpet appearances that it’s a daunting task just to keep track of the who, what, and where. So far the dominant force on the red carpet has been Gucci.
Not only did Salma Hayek debut a one of a kind, handmade gown from the Gucci Premiere line, but she was joined by Kate Beckinsale (a judge on the film festival’s panel this year), Aishwarya Rai, Camilla Belle, Salma Hayek, Lea Seydoux, and Gucci designer Frida Giannini–all of whom wore specially created Gucci creations on the red carpet.

Giannini’s Hollywood inspiration for the bespoke line was clearly displayed in the draped gowns, many of which featured carefully pleated chiffon and intricate embroidered and beaded details.
Carey Mulligan has also been a big presence at Cannes Film Festival this year. She’s in town to promote her new film Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps. The actress has made some rather poor fashion choices in the past (ahem, Met Gala), but has been hitting the nail on the head in Cannes so far. The actress first appeared in the South of France in a printed Prada dress from the Italian label’s new Prada Print collection before switching into a dress from one of my favorite designers, Roland Mouret. The actress opted for the RM by Roland Mouret Fall 2010 ‘Pazeau’ dress, and then went with a Fall 2010 Azzaro custom-made gown with a beaded collar for the premiere of her film.
I have to say though that my favorite look of the festival so far was that of French actress Sandrine Bonnaire. She wore a Alexis Mabille Spring 2010 Couture look to the premiere of Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps. While the dress may not be the stunning at first glance, it has an unexpected silhouette that draws you in, and it set the actress apart from the other women on the red carpet. Plus, her blue head-wrap is to die for–I see a new trend on the horizon.
