Forum Members React to Glenn Martens Becoming Maison Margiela Creative Director

The world of fashion continues to evolve, with the game of musical chairs between designers and fashion houses proving to be somewhat of an unstoppable force. Today, Glenn Martens is announced as Maison Margiela creative director. Martens succeeds John Galliano as the creative force behind the Paris-based fashion house, who departed ways with the brand in December. Glenn Martens is set to remain as Diesel creative director, with the move to Maison Margiela making complete sense. After all, Martens (a graduate from Antwerp’s Royal Academy of Fine Arts) already works for Margiela’s parent company, OTB (which also owns Diesel). No date has been set for Martens’ debut Maison Margiela collection. Stay tuned.

“I hope he does well. He got a bit lost in the last few seasons of Y/Project.” [youthinasia]

“I loved his haute couture for Jean Paul Gaultier so I am excited to see what he will do at Margiela.” [Salvatore]

“It took them long enough! I am beyond excited for this new chapter of the brand! I hope he lives up to my expectations but already preparing my wallet for his tenure. Congrats Glenn!” [VogueDisciple93]

“Glad it’s not Francesco Risso who was also gunning for this job.” [tatouejeremie]

“Just glad we’ll get a new f*cking couture collection. If I never see the last one again, it’ll be too soon.” [blueorchid]

“This makes him a natural rival to Daniel Roseberry in my eyes. I’m sure even in his wildest dreams, Glenn’s first artisanal collection won’t be able to match the public appeal of Galliano for Spring 2024. Will it be able to generate the same buzz as those of Roseberry’s Schiaparelli?” [Kanzai]
