To conclude the third day of Paris Fashion Week, the Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode gave up Wednesday evening’s slot to Olivier Routsteing of Balmain. Rousteing has been the creative force behind the storied French fashion house (founded in 1945 by Pierre Balmain) since 2011, replacing Christophe Decarnin. Tonight, Rousteing relied upon his essentials and signature pieces, from blazers with dramatic pointy shoulders to structured dresses with cinched waists. Opening up the collection were garments adorned with beaded portraits, in a nod to the recent relaunch of Balmain Beauty. France’s First Lady Brigitte Macron and rapper Cardi B were both sat perched front row, as supermodel Paulina Porizkova led a model army decked out in an array of nude looks for a show-stopping finale.
Balmain Spring 2025 Collection Review
Read below the reactions of theFashionSpot’s forum members:
“The awful casting is dragging down on the delightfully tacky collection.” [LadyJunon]
“A big no.” [matheus_s]
“Some bags just ruined the looks and the casting is very… B- tier.” [GivenchyAddict]
“Tragic collection, looked like one of Rousteing’s collections from 2018, no evolution. Exaggerated shoulder pads and wrap skirts reissued from the Spring 2021 collection. The tacky push on the newly-released perfumes with those couple last dresses shaped as perfume bottles – tacky!” [FashionPower]
“One of his worst collections. Everything looked cheap and rushed.” [avonlea002]
“No taste! Awful offering with the tailoring suits being the only exceptions.” [Ihhbl]
“I can’t bring myself to dislike any of Olivier Rousteing’s work. There is something very honest and genuine in his creations. He is the embodiment of his work and I can see that it’s a very personal process for him. He is Balmain and it’s nice to see a brand with such longevity similar to Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel.” [tourbillions]
“I love how relaxed the whole thing felt, mostly through the presence of more flou and softer tones.” [Lola701]
