Forum Members Review Maria Grazia Chiuri’s Fall 2024 Christian Dior Olympic-Themed Haute Couture Collection

Paris, right now, remains a hub of activity. Off of the heels of Menswear Paris Fashion Week and Vogue World: Paris, the Fall 2024 season of Haute Couture Paris Fashion Week gets into full swing today. Earlier (at 02:30pm Paris time), Maria Grazia Chiuri unveiled her latest couture collection for Christian Dior. As the French capital is set to play host to the 2024 Olympic Games next month, the Italian designer embraced the Olympic spirit and presented a lineup of silver and gold Grecian gowns and embellished bodysuits as a tribute to athletes from antiquity to present day. The walls adoring the vast tent erected within the garden of the Musée Rodin, became a tribute to the late artist Faith Ringgold and featured Ringgold’s Woman Freedom Now political poster from 1971, in addition to 32 recreations of her mosaics.

Read below the reactions of theFashionSpot’s forum members:

“After seeing her repetitive greco-roman dresses, I decide to stop watching the live stream.” [JohannesL]

“Halston did Grecian dresses the best and these are boring and matronly compared to his designs from the 70s.” [disco54]

“Maria Grazia Chiuri doesn’t have much enthusiasm or passion or adoration or admiration for dressing women. For a moment it seemed like a Sunday with all the washed sheets drying in the wind.” [CholoChic]

“The collection is pretty but forgettable. Nothing offensive, simple basic silhouettes. The Dior couture client base buys mostly because it’s Dior and they are not true fashion customers at this point. I would imagine the atelier can craft this in their sleep.” [reese06]

“How much longer is gonna be allowed at Dior? The mosaics? Sweet, for a child’s school project or a gymnasium wall – not couture. I understand keeping things safe, or tame, sure. But this is prêt-à-porter and we all know it. Sad.” [jeremydante]

“I do enjoy the lightness and Olympic theme of this collection compared to her more stuffy offerings but this presentation style is getting monotonous.” [Urban Stylin]

“I really like this collection, which obviously a sign that I’ve gotten a brain tumor.” [LadyJunon]
