Simon Porte Jacquemus insists on making the fashion pack travel far and wide to bare witness to his collections. The French designer has chosen locations like a tropical beach in Hawaii and the former royal residence of Versailles to unveil his collections, and opted for the Italian island of Capri for the Fall 2024 season.
Gwyneth Paltrow, Dua Lipa, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Laetitia Casta were just a handful of the A-list attendees present on the front row, baring witness to the designer’s 15th anniversary collection. The famous Casa Malaparte, built by Curzio Malaparte in 1937, and later used as the setting for Jean-Luc Godard’s Contempt starring Brigitte Bardot, proved to be the perfect setting. Minimalism and dramatic silhouettes were high on the agenda of Jacquemus’ “La Casa” collection, with zebra stripes, mariniere stripes and soft pastel colors injected throughout. To round out the collection, Jacquemus invited Jennie of Blackpink to close the runway, wearing a simple black A-line dress.
Read below the reactions of theFashionSpot’s forum members:
“I will probably never understand Jacquemus’ success. It’s been a decade and his clothes look as cheap and poorly constructed as they did in the beginning.” [Creative]
“These stiff square and trapezoid shapes are just not it. He doesn’t know how to cut and construct them properly and they always look off. I don’t understand why he keeps pushing for these. I can like him when he’s more sensual in his proportions and his treating of fabrics, but that’s been missing from his m/o these last few years. Why try so hard?” [Mr-Dale]
“The menswear is so bad. Looks like JW Anderson.” [Alquimista]
“Does this actually sell? Those shapes… my god…” [blueorchid]
“Wannabe Bottega Veneta by Blazy. The difference is that Matthieu spent years working in the industry and can at least offer a decent constructed garment. Here everything feels cartoonish and poorly considered.” [IloveDiorHomme]
“The whole show is very aesthetically pleasant with a beautiful color scheme and prints. Love the location too.” [Urban Stylin]
“I like it very much! Bravo Simon!” [BalkaniStaCouture]
