You may still be buzzing from the recent ready-to-wear collections we’ve all just digested for Spring 2024, but Christian Dior is reminding us of the sheer brilliance of the Fall 2023 haute couture collections back in July, with the unveiling of a making-of video which takes us deep inside the Dior ateliers to bare witness to the immense artistry and craftsmanship of Maria Grazia Chiuri’s 14th couture outing as creative director.
The 20+ minute video shows the Dior artisans as masters at work, crafting each look by hand for Chiuri’s collection boasting elements that can be described as archetypal: the tunic, the peplum, the cape, the stole – each look inspired by mythology and goddesses of the ancient world. Constructed in a dreamy and muted color palette of white, beige, silver and pale gold, models paraded the 66-look collection around a set adorned with the work of artist Marta Roberti.
Back in July, our forum members raved about the collection. “DIVINE. Absolutely stunning,” raved Mutterlin.
“I loved it. Even in the still images one can see how light the tailoring is, how it just floats on the body. The jackets slightly pinched in at the waist, and the maxi skirts with a slight gather at the hem – very beautiful silhouettes. My favorite look is the black dress on Sui He,” admired Kennnnnn.
“Cut by gods, sewn by angels. Exquisitely gentle clothes. The series of white tailleurs are faultless. The plissé dresses look weightless. Some of the techniques are just incredible yet so quiet in their execution. These are clothes that are respectful of a woman and allow for graceful freedom, to be enjoyed by her, cherished. Outstanding,” voiced Dellone.
