It’s Official: Kaia Gerber Owned New York Fashion Week

Little Kaia Gerber, daughter of 90s icon Cindy Crawford, is all grow’d up and positively slaying New York Fashion Week. Not that we didn’t see this coming. The spitting image of her mom, Gerber basically emerged from the womb a model. Her first Vogue appearance was in 2004, at age 3. Her first campaign (for Versace) came in 2010 — she was 10. In 2016, a then 15-year-old Gerber landed her first beauty campaign, starring in Marc Jacobs Beauty’s Spring 2017 ads. That year also saw the release of Gerber’s first fashion film (for Miu Miu eyewear) and solo cover (she fronted the 35th issue of Pop magazine).

On the brink of New York Fashion Week — September 3 — the beauteous Virgo finally turned 16, aka legal age for runway models. IMG featured her in its show package; her catwalk debut was imminent.

CALVIN KLEIN! there are no words to describe how I feel, I love you endlessly Raf!

We didn’t have long to wait. In a historic fashion moment, Gerber walked Raf Simons’ second Calvin Klein runway — one of the most anticipated (though not very well-received) shows of the season.

Then it was on to another NYFW mainstay. On Saturday, Gerber opened Alexander Wang’s buzzy three-part runway, dubbed #Wangfest. Gerber, a seasoned-ish #WangSquad member — she appeared in the brand’s Spring 2016 campaign shortly after signing with IMG — walked the streets of downtown Manhattan and Bushwick in a sequins-embellished white tank dress and clear heels.

FENTYXPUMA! no one does it like you @badgalriri, the coolest ever.

The following evening, Gerber had the honor of walking in Rihanna’s much-hyped Fenty x Puma show at the ‪Park Avenue Armory. It opened with a trio of motocross stuntmen doing tricks on mountains of pink sand and ended with one of the daredevils riding Rihanna out for her final bow. In between, Gerber, Slick Woods, Jazelle Zanaughtti and more modeled bright neon biker (as in cyclist and motorcyclist) and scuba-inspired looks.

Her mama must be so proud. Watch this space for more fashion month Gerber sightings. We can almost guarantee a Marc Jacobs moment. As for Versace…well, we’ll have to wait and see.

Gerber rounded out her first NYFW with appearances at Coach and, as predicted, Marc Jacobs. At Stuart Vevers’ ode to Americana and Keith Haring, Gerber gave a lesson in layering (satin bombers under tough biker jackets are the lewk).

On Wednesday, Gerber closed the NYFW closer in elbow-length black gloves and a slinky, sequins and flower-embellished yellow evening dress topped with a velvety turban.
