Bella Hadid dominated the September issues with cover after cover after cover. Given that most of them fell flat, we can only hope for a Hadid-free October newsstand (though this is exceedingly unlikely). Even more disappointing, favorites like Claudia Schiffer and Edie Campbell failed to impress with their covers this month. There were also a few oddball pairings to peak our interest — Karlie Kloss and Courtney Love? — along with some fantastic solo surprises like Helen Mirren. Trend-wise, it was a mixed bag with the exception of two clear standouts: oversized flower chokers and Prada’s feathered headdress.
Here’s a look at all the September 2017 magazine covers you need to know about.
All the September 2017 Magazine Covers We Loved and Hated
-
British Vogue
How is it possible that five top models (Nora Attal, Edie Campbell, Jean Campbell, Kate Moss and Stella Tennant) all dressed in Alexander McQueen come together for such a forgettable cover?
-
Vogue Paris
Edie Campbell perfectly channels 60s-era glam while wearing Prada's feathered headdress.
-
Allure
A radiant Helen Mirren at 72 years old on the cover of a major beauty magazine is this month's best surprise.
-
Marie Claire
We bet Emma Stone is already regretting agreeing to wear that Dior hat.
-
Vogue
Blame the country's state of affairs, but this cover is bleak — not the escapism one yearns for when leafing through a fashion magazine.
-
ELLE
Alicia Vikander looking a bit washed out, but nonetheless reminds us that white after Labor Day is perfectly on trend.
-
Town & Country
Someone get Billie Lourd a double shot of espresso for those sleepy eyes.
-
Glamour
It's hard to pick what's worse — the oversized flower choker around Blake Lively's neck or the jumbled font and layout.
-
ELLE China
Is Bella Hadid auditioning for a sci-fi movie?
-
Vogue Australia
With Bella Hadid's blank gaze and runny makeup, this looks more like the cover of a bad romance novel than a fashion magazine.
-
ELLE Russia
Finally! Bella Hadid looking simple and beautiful, but the stylist could have found a more exciting dress.
-
ELLE UK
From the pose to the clothes to Cara Delevingne's striking hair and makeup, everything about this cover works.
-
Harper's Bazaar China
Bella Hadid sitting on top of the world. How appropriate.
-
Harper's Bazaar UK
Is Kristen Stewart channeling Cara Delevingne or the other way around?
-
InStyle
Did anyone else think this Selena Gomez cover was actually Kaia Gerber?
-
W
The sci-fi trend we've been seeing this month continues with this Katy Perry cover.
-
Cosmopolitan
Miley Cyrus with her signature tongue-out pose in a truly hideous denim outfit.

Nylon
Kirsten Dunst's moody look is in perfect contrast to her ladylike dress.

Vogue Japan
How did Vogue Japan manage to make six top models (Lara Stone, Joan Smalls, Natasha Poly, Doutzen Kroes, Vittoria Ceretti and Anna Ewers) look so plastic?
-
Harper's Bazaar
Karlie Kloss and Courtney Love make an unlikely (and overly airbrushed) pair for the all-important September issue.
-
Harper's Bazaar
An alternate cover for Harper's Bazaar features another random pairing with The Weeknd, Adriana Lima and Irina Shayk. And yet another magazine trying to make the flower choker happen.
-
Vogue China
Bella Hadid and Chu Wong give us just the right amount of goth.
-
Vanity Fair
Angelina Jolie's first cover in two years and we get this?
-
Vogue Spain
Bella Hadid, wearing Prada's feathered headdress, gives us her best cover of the month.

Vogue Arabia
Yep, another Bella Hadid cover.
-
Vogue Korea
And when it's not Bella Hadid, it's Gigi. As one tFS forum member stated, "Wake me up when the Hadids are FINISHED!"
-
Vogue Russia
Natalia Vodianova looking perfectly styled for fall.
-
Vogue Germany
It's always great to see one of the original supermodels, but Claudia Schiffer's witchy styling makes for one of the month's worst covers.
-
W Korea
Better than the usual blank stare we get from Kendall Jenner.
-
Harper's Bazaar Spain
Just a causal Sunday morning for Candice Swanepoel with no shirt and a tambourine.
-
Vogue Ukraine
Charlee Fraser makes us all want to embrace the no-makeup look.
-
ELLE Spain
Not an outfit anyone should attempt, but Shlomit Malka pulls it off.
-
Glamour Italia
Did Vlada Roslyakova really need that bird?
