Yesterday’s Chanel Cruise Show May Have Been Karl Lagerfeld’s Final Collection

Are you sitting down? If not, do so. Town & Country reports that Chanel and Fendi frontman Karl Lagerfeld may be in poor health. According to unnamed Chanel sources, the French fashion house’s 2018 Resort Show — typically staged at some exotic locale — was originally intended for Lisbon, not Paris’ Grand Palais. However, the faux Temple of Poseidon was ultimately erected in Paris because “as more than one put it, ‘Karl is not doing well.’”

Apparently, those lucky enough to attend the presentation were struck by the 83-year-old fashion legend’s “unstable” finale walk, throughout which he “limped distinctly” and held tight to his godson Hudson Kroenig’s hand. Adding to the speculation is the fact that Lagerfeld would not see well-wishers and reporters after the show. An “unusual” no backstage policy ensured his privacy. Another Chanel source implied Lagerfeld will be stepping down from his professional obligations. “You can feel the winding down in-house,” the source told Town & Country. “It definitely feels like an era is coming to an end.”

Chanel spokespeople have yet to comment on the subject. Cross your fingers, people.
