Forever 21 Is Stepping Up Its Plus-Size Line

We can’t always get behind Forever 21. The lightning-fast fashion retailer has repeatedly been called out for copyright infringement and unfair labor practices (shockingly, there’s a human cost to selling extremely low-priced merchandise). Nevertheless, this latest bit of Forevs-related news has us smiling: On April 14, the teen-tilted brand will relaunch its plus-size collection, Forever 21 Plus. Per Linda Chang, Forever 21’s of vice president of merchandising, the range will include more — and more fashionable — options than ever before.

The new and improved Forever 21 Plus will feature apparel, accessories, lingerie and, for the first time, swimwear. Expect a slew of 90s-inspired pieces, including embroidered motorcycle jackets, chokers, boots and rose-colored sunglasses. Sizes will range from XL to 3X; prices will hover between $15.90 and $78.

“We launched Forever 21 Plus in 2009 as we felt that there was a big gap in the market for trend-driven, plus fashion at a great value,” Chang told WWD. “Our instincts were right and now ‘plus’ is a key category for us. We’re relaunching Forever 21 Plus in response to a growing customer demand for more styles and fashion.” Let this be a lesson to brands that have yet to hop on the size-inclusive train: go where the money is.

The accompanying lookbook stars body-positive activist and Instagram sensation Barbie Ferreira, alongside blonde bombshell Lulu Bonfils. “We have created a special lookbook that acts as a styling guide for our customers, which illustrates the new, energetic and bold look of the collection,” explained Chang. “Additionally, we will be highlighting more influencers and customers on the Forever 21 Plus Instagram.” (The account is actually a pretty useful plus-size styling resource. We recommend giving it a follow.)
