Victoria’s Secret Angels have one of the most lucrative gigs in the industry — and they certainly work for their payday. To earn wings — or even a spot on the Victoria’s Secret runway — a model has to be a pro at brand promotion. If you follow any one of the muscled beauties who walked in the 2016 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show on Instagram, you more than know this to be true. Not that the brand doesn’t set them up for success — swaggy jet rides, photogenic locales and Getty photographers help make the social media magic happen.
And happen it does. Victoria’s Secret is pretty much the Selena Gomez of consumer brands. On the day of its annual fashion show, the lingerie megabrand rules Instagram. That Monday, there were over 362,000 mentions of Victoria’s Secret on Facebook and Twitter, according to social analytics firm ListenFirst Media. Of the Instagram posts published by the top 500 consumer brands that day, the top seven most popular posts belonged to Victoria’s Secret. The most engaging photo of all (below) showed Angels Elsa Hosk and Adriana Lima at the Today show.

Which is why, when analytics company D’Marie decided to rank the 14 officially appointed Victoria’s Secret Angels in order of social influence, we weren’t surprised to see Lima summit the list (Hosk, surprisingly, did not make the top five). “D’Marie’s ranking system is based on each influencer’s ability to generate reach, engagement and most importantly sales conversions from their social media portfolio. We call this an influencer’s ‘true value,’” explains the company’s website. “We’ve developed an algorithm that compiles over 24 specific metrics from each social media platform that determines an individual’s ranking amongst other’s in any variety of categories.”
Of course, according to D’Marie’s algorithm, Kendall Jenner is currently the number one most influential model in the world, followed by Cara Delevingne, then Gigi Hadid. So, if you took non-winged walkers into account, Kendall and Gigi would trump Adriana.
