10 Things to Know About Chanel’s Spring 2017 Fashion Show

A moment of silence for whatever Chanel-composed outfit Kim Kardashian would’ve been wearing at the brand’s Spring 2017 presentation this morning. Of course, despite the air of unease that’s (we imagine) hanging over Paris Fashion Week, her bestie Karl Lagerfield’s show did go on. As per usual, the A-list sat front row, the set was phenomenal and yes, there was a whole lotta tweed.

1. The show took place at the Grand Palais, which Lagerfield transformed into something resembling a Mr. Robot set. At the Data Center Chanel, technicolor Ethernet cords wound around stacks and stacks of gargantuan computer processors that formed makeshift aisles-slash-runways. The theme was retro meets future.

2. Robots, aka #Cocobots, opened the show. (Guess no human could fill Kendall Jenner’s or Cara Delevingne’s quilted shoes?)

3. Edie Campbell, Kylie’s dancer partner Anna Ewers, Mica Arganaraz, Soo Joo Park, Cat McNeil, Binx Walton, Lindsey Wixson, Louise Parker and Arizona Muse walked the show in bold, often neon-blasted looks. Kendall, who left the City of Light soon after her sister, was not present. Nor was Bella Hadid, who’s currently in Tokyo.

4. Expect a resurgence of the iconic Chanel ballet flat. When they did appear, the heels were low, block-heeled and cozy.

5. The models sported a youthful, 80s-inspired glow courtesy of makeup artist Tom Pecheux. Think shiny pink lips accented by pink and peony blush applied highlighter-style (along the cheekbones, past the temples and above the edge of the eyelids).

6. The hair, as Fashionista put it, was very modern day Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Hairstylist Sam McKnight did voluminous, low-slung side ponies on the majority of the models. Of the models’ full, textured tresses, McKnight said, “They’re sporty, naughty and easy at the same time.”

7. Coco Chanel famously said, “Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take at least one thing off.” Karl Lagerfeld’s models did not abide. In addition to sideways snapbacks that complemented their colorful tweed coordinates, the girls wore statement earrings, classic Chanel floral brooches and charming hair elastics.
