One thing’s for sure: October belongs to Kendall Jenner. Not only did the reality star turned model appear on
Allure , but a whopping four
Vogue covers as well. Gigi Hadid wasn’t far behind with a number of noteworthy cover appearances, leaving some to wonder what’s worse, a newsstand dominated by vanilla actresses or one dominated by underwhelming shots of reality star models. There were some welcome surprises this month, however, including a
Vogue cover for Lupita Nyong’o, one for Luna Bijl and one for Victoria Beckham, who may as well be a model. Here’s a look at all of the aforementioned shots and more as we round up the best and worst of this month’s magazine covers.
The Glossies: All the October 2016 Covers We Loved and Hated
Vogue
Impeccably styled, Lupita Nyong'o looks beautiful in a season-appropriate Chanel look.
Harper's Bazaar Australia
It may not be groundbreaking, but this is a beautiful shot and a perfect-for-fall coat.
Vogue Australia
Love or hate the Gucci look on the cover, at least this is a uniquely-styled shot.
Harper's Bazaar
Cheesy and uninspiring, Gigi Hadid does, at least, have great brows going for her on this cover.
Harper's Bazaar Spain
Joan Smalls looks sleek and beautiful, though a swimsuit in October may be a bit of a stretch.
Vogue Paris
Her Louis Vuitton outfit may not be particularly wearable, but Luna Bijl pulls it off and even makes dirty look chic.
Red
Renée Zellweger looks adorable on this cover wearing a black off-the-shoulder dress.
ELLE Canada
What on earth was Ashley Graham's stylist for this shoot thinking? If only someone had thought to cover up the bra-exposing glitter outfit with that Marina Rinaldi coat. The cover does get kudos for featuring affordable fashion via that H&M hat.
Marie Claire
Kate Hudson styles sexy red lace with morning-after hair (natch).
ELLE
While it's not a particularly riveting shot, it's nice to see a toned-down version of Miley Cyrus.
Glamour UK
Jenna Coleman proves that she's a natural beauty with her minimal makeup look and understated Miu Miu dress. That said, this cover looks more like a test shot than an actual glossy cover.
InStyle
The First Lady looks undeniably cover-worthy here.
Marie Claire UK
Is this really Britney Spears or a wax figure? And why does it look as though she’s wearing an ill-fitting Burberry coat?
Latina
Gina Rodriguez shows us she's not cookie cutter...for better or worse.
Teen Vogue
After the couple's breakup, we see a somewhat melancholic Chloë Grace Moretz hugging ex Brooklyn Beckham, whose back is turned to the camera.
Vogue UK
Truth: You can't go wrong with Victoria Beckham on a cover.
Glamour
Though her interview in which she reveals how much she loves food and never diets is eye-roll-inducing, kudos to Joan Smalls for making this patterned dress look appealing.
Allure
Could this shot be any more boring?
CR Fashion Book
Rihanna gives us her take on Marie Antoinette, as only she can.
Harper's Bazaar UK
Mariacarla Boscono looks fantastic in her unwearable but delightfully fun cover outfit.
Vogue Germany
Kendall Jenner gives us attitude with a side of goth but proves, once again, that she doesn't have the modeling chops to merit all the cover attention.
Vogue Japan
Same expression, different cover...
Vogue Spain
Someone needs to get Kendall Jenner in a room with Tyra Banks so she can learn how to smize and stop churning out the same blank expression.
W
Kanye West, Irina Shayk, Jodie Foster and Halle Berry are among those to get their own solo covers this month. Somehow everyone manages to look like a wax figure.
Dazed
Looks like someone needs to pencil spray tan into their schedule.
Fashion
She may not get much attention for her acting, but Kate Bosworth always delivers on the fashion front.
Wonderland
Hard to think anything besides "trashy" when looking at this shot.
The Gentlewoman
Zadie Smith makes for a refreshing cover...and those freckles!
Harper's Bazaar India
Kudos to Harper's Bazaar India for going out on a limb and featuring solo covers with transgender models Tracey Africa Norman and Geena Rocero.
