21 Questions with… Celebrity Manicurist Jin Soon Choi

With three namesake salons, her own line of polishes and a resume that includes spearheading the nail looks for some of the biggest Fashion Week shows and editorial shoots, Jin Soon Choi is arguably one of the world’s most influential celebrity and editorial manicurists. Here she answers our quickfire questions.

  1. When I get dressed in the morning…I strive for a mix of comfort and style because I work backstage a lot; I need to be able to move and get around easily.
  2. I never leave my home without…my cell phone.
  3. The item of clothing I currently wear the most…are my Tibi pants.
  4. My biggest beauty pet peeve is…people biting their nails.
  5. The key to a good manicure is…pushing back the cuticles correctly.
  6. My favorite current nail trend is…the use of rich, vibrant shades, such as JINsoon Cool Blue.
  7. When I’m looking to de-stress…I get a massage.
  8. My beauty ritual essentials include…cleansing, exfoliating and moisturizing.
  9. If my days had one extra hour I’d…read more literature like I used to when I was younger.
  10. The last thing I googled was…the Met Gala.
  11. I never travel without…SK-II face cream.
  12. My favorite polish brands include…Chanel, Revlon and, of course, JINsoon Nail Lacquer.
  13. The show I enjoy working on the most during Fashion Week is…I can’t pick one! I love working with all the designers because they each have a different style and it’s always fun to learn about their inspirations.
  14. People often don’t realize that…leaving nail polish on for too long damages your nails.
  15. My guilty pleasure is…coconut ice bars from Trader Joe’s.
