The Inspiration: English countryside
The Look: Max Mara may have been inspired by the English countryside – tweeds and all – but its customer is definitely urban and if there was any doubt, there were pointed gold lame shoes and sunglasses (in the winter) to hit the message home. Outerwear has always been the brand’s main attraction and this season’s styles came darkly hued and slightly oversized. Styles ranged from belted trenches and fur coats, to fur-lined vests and quilted puffer jackets done in a mix of monochrome hues, tweeds, herringbone and plaid. Also in the mix, outerwear that mixed materials/textures. Under the outerwear, models wore long chunky knits, clean-lined monochrome fitted dresses and below-the-knee pencil skirts.
The Accessories: This may be the season Max Mara’s accessories finally get some attention thanks to the eye-catching textured metallic gold pointed booties (they also came in a black version). Handbags were similarly textured with a long strap and rectangular silhouette.
The Beauty: Washed out eyes and full bright red lips. Hair was parted in the middle and worn slightly messy.
The Takeaway: Outerwear was the clear star of the show with plenty of worthy investment pieces.
