Cynthia Rowley Keeps Things Upbeat for Fall 2014 (Runway Review)

The Scene: Shown at the Diamond Horseshoe, which recently reopened to much buzz at the Paramount Hotel, guests were greeted by models standing in glass boxes. There was also a cocktail laboratory, acrobats, a video featuring a knife thrower and models standing against an antiqued metal backdrop, all of which made for an upbeat party atmosphere.

The Inspiration: Snow bunnies and the 70s.

The Look: A colorful collection with a number of 70s references, including ruffle-hemmed mini dresses, layered monochrome and colorblocked separates, lightly flared cropped over the ankle pants, turtlenecks with contrasting colors at the neck, painterly printed separates and dresses, rainbow patterns, embroidery and bright appliqués. Fitted outerwear along wtih wide leather skirts and pants were also in the mix and a number of models had fur head coverings for a cozy snow bunny bend. What was most impressive about the collection, however, is that it consisted of versatile pieces that could easily be styled to work year-round (as evidenced by the fact that half the looks were paired with low-heeled pumps and the other with over-the-knee boots).

The Accessories: Over-the-knee heeled boots, low-heeled print pumps, colorful bangles and printed socks.

The Beauty: Side-swept morning-after hair, a winged eye and high-shine light pink lips.

The Takeaway: An upbeat, versatile lineup.
