Reem Acra Brings Some Edge to Eveningwear for Fall 2014 (Runway Review)

The Inspiration: Glamazons, plain and simple (but embellished and not actually simple).

The Look: Eveningwear for the edgier girl and standard gala/red carpet gowns. Acra started dark and wild with sultry, textural frocks, had an intermission of buttoned-up (but not boring) ladylike pieces and ended with an array of special-event looks. The last were pretty if a bit predictable; lace-effect gowns or animal stripes comprised of shimmery elements and embroidery, also rather like fire licking at the chest (and cue the inevitable nip slips). The center portion of the show had a particularly strong piece — a light pink cardigan/skirt set — the former made of sequins, and both displaying a curvy black shape.

The Accessories: Cut-out peep-toe heels and great contrasting doubled-up waist belts.

The Beauty: Slicked-back updos topped dark eyes and shiny, light pink lips.

The Takeaway: Acra’s pieces are quite interesting, when they don’t feel like straight-up red carpet fodder.
