Karl Lagerfeld set Chanel’s Spring 2014 show amidst a gallery of 75 Chanel-inspired art works (think interlocking Cs made out of pearls that were falling onto the floor and a Chanel No.5 Robot) and while the question of fashion as art is one that has long pervaded the Paris runway shows (see Comme des Garcons), this was an exceedingly wearable season for Chanel.
Heavy on colorful daywear, the massive collection had about 100 looks, many of which were sporty with their drop waists, tweeds, pockets and roomy silhouettes. Devoid of gowns, Lagerfeld showed plenty of dresses, jumpers and midi skirts instead in draped, colorful, embroidered and lace paneled iterations, giving the global brand’s customer plenty to choose from.
Accessories were the real show-stoppers this season, however. Necklace came fashioned out of oversized pearls, there were fantastic cap toe boots, small structured crossbody bags and a slew of larger day bags.
