A nautical influence for spring isn’t exactly novel, but when it’s interpreted by Swedish cool kids Acne, it takes on a whole new persona. The sea-faring touch was pretty subtle, actually (starchy white sailor caps, big button-heavy jackets) and through Acne’s expert hand, it felt like a breezy collection of mostly separates with serious movement.
Indeed, most silhouettes were easy, off-the-body, designed to catch some serious wind (sea air perhaps). Blocky jumpsuits and denim dresses held the Acne signature, as did the array of black looks that came down the runway (nylon windbreaker paired with knee-length tufted shorts, a neat oversized mini dress). Even the black suit with embroidered anchors felt fresh—creased pants as the likely culprit—and not too old-school J.Crew. A ton of solids, the only prints to break it up were colorful takes on abstract camouflage.
Acne has a way of making the familiar a little skewed, putting their perfect Scandinavian spin on it and make it totally cool and unique. You can now add “nautical themes” to that running list.
