After five years of showing in London, Sass & Bide have infiltrated America. But not because their clothes didn’t resonate in the former. Last week, British It Girls Poppy Delevingne, Dree Hemingway and Langley Fox Hemingway joined Iggy Azealea, Nicole Trunfio, Jess Hart, Alexandra Richards and Zoe Kravitz to support Heidi Middleton and Sarah-Jane Clarke in their first New York Fashion Week show in five years, and to comprise one of the week’s most aesthetically pleasing front rows.
The collection itself was an equally stylish mixed bag. Middleton called it ‘considered chaos,’ a fitting description for the sartorial potpourri of everything that makes Sass & Bide so covetable. The show started out with a navy dress that combined multiple hem lengths, armour-like embellishment and polished sex appeal, which are all hallmarks of a Sass & Bide creation.
From there, Clarke and Middleton showed off more of their strengths that have been over a decade in the making. Immaculately tailored blazers gave weight to flowy maxi skirts and boxy shorts (Sass & Bide are masters of proportion). Their time in London showed through via structured mini dresses in modish monochrome houndstooth, though the collection’s standout fabric was that vintage flower print trimmed with more gold.
Considering many New Yorkers are visual virgins when it comes to the Australian label, it was the perfect way for Sass & Bide to introduce themselves. We can’t wait to see how this relationship progresses.
