Want to be a multi-million dollar money making machine? Under the age of 18? It seems like the best break you could possible get is to land a Disney Channel television show (Hilary Duff and Miley Cyrus, anyone?). It repeatedly boggles my mind the status symbol that the tween/teen channel’s stars achieve. One of the latest products of the Disney machine is 17-year-old Selena Gomez of “Wizards of Waverly Place.” Following the likes of Duff, Cyrus, Lohan, the Olsens, and countless others, Gomez is now lauching her own line of apparel, Dream Out Loud by Selena Gomez, for Fall 2010.
To create the wears, the starlette has teamed up with 20 year fashion industry vet and former Generra designer (Generra has just opened a swank new store in the meatpacking district), Tony Melillo. What did the seasoned vet have to say about the fledgling designer? — “It was surprising as I’ve never worked with someone so young, and never really expected her to be that smart.”
“She has a desire to be involved, and nothing is sent out there without her approval. It’s nice to see her have this genuine interest.”
Who needs talent when you have interest, right?
