PARIS: BALENCIAGA S/S 2010

Given that in the past two seasons it seemed like you couldn’t go one block in New York City without seeing someone toting around a “classic” Balenciaga bag (or a fake version of one), it’s easy to forget that the house really shines when it comes to their clothing, thanks to the talent of the brand’s creative director Nicolas Ghesquiere. Unlike the bags, which are carried by a wide variety of women, it takes a specific type of lady to pull of the fabulous fierceness that come with wearing one of Ghesquiere exquisite creations.

This season the designer’s collection boasted a slew of slim silhouettes and varied color palette the made the looks range from dark and subdued – almost gothic – to bright, patterned, but still structured. Ghesquiere designs for a strong, confident woman who stands out from the pack (that’s why, given her strong features, I thought it was so fitting that they had Jennifer Connelly as their face for awhile), and all of his looks have a sort of futuristic, robotic feel to them.

The designer’s pants, hoods, leather accented vests, and shoes this season are to die for. I’m already smiling just at the thought of spring, and heading to Bergdorf Goodman to try on pieces from the collection (just for fun…).
