Eastpak showed they’ve been doing their homework. This Spring/Summer 2010 collection of urban street wear and bags truly reflects the now in youth culture in Berlin and around the world.
The show was crazy, with fog, blasted rap music, foul language, street dancers, and wild lighting. The audience loved the honest and irreverent parade of attitude and style. This was a genuine vibe too, as Eastpak cast their models while helping out with a social welfare project in critically underprivileged sections of Berlin. Some of the models were literally just out of juvenile prisons.
The brand representatives say their bosses just wanted to give these teenagers and young people the opportunity to be part of a big project to start a new life with something they can be proud of. Eastpak is known for casting models off the street, but this time it was a revelation.
The reformed ruffian models aren’t the only ones who should be proud. The garments shown were evolved and relevant, and overall this was an excellent show which represented what fashion is really supposed to be about, taking cues from the living pulse of culture.
