NYLON GIRLS, KITTY DEACON GOES TO PARIS

While we’re still getting over the debacle that was the 50th anniversary Barbie runway show during New York Fashion Week’s February Fall Winter season shows, there is another icon celebrating a milestone. Hello Kitty turns 35 years old this year and Nylon magazine has taken notice. To celebrate the iconic Sanrio figure’s birthday, eight of the mag’s favorite Nylon girls were featured with Hello Kitty’s instantly recognizable cat ears.

From Nylon to Paris, London-based fashion designer Giles Deacon was just crowned the 2009 ANDAM Award winner, and is thus the recipient of 160,000 euro or $226,000 prize. Deacon is following in the footsteps of last year’s winner, and fellow British designer Gareth Pugh will be showing in Paris come the Spring/Summer 2009 ready to wear season shows which begin in September (Paris Fashion Week runs from September 30th to October 8th).  Deacon has previously shown in London.

The ANDAM award is for fashion designers under the age of 40 who are looking to grow their brands in France.  It is given by the National Association for the Development of the Fashion Arts. Besides Gareth Pugh, the elusive Martin Margiela has also previously won the coveted award.
