H&M AND JIMMY CHOO COLLABORATE

There is always a ton of hype around H&M’s limited edition designer collection, although we were in H&M recently and surprised to see that a number of the Matthew Williamson for H&M second shipment pieces were still on the racks.

But we predict nothing short of utter madness when, in November, Jimmy Choo’s collection for H&M hits. It was just announced that the iconic British shoe and handbag label will be the first accessories brand to partner with H&M for a limited edition collaboration.  To celebrate the teaming, Jimmy Choo will extend its design vision to create a women’s clothing range for H&M that will complement the accessory capsule. Additionally, the collaboration will include a men’s collection of shoes, bags and accessories.

Founder and president of Jimmy Choo, Tamara Mellon, said via a press release that Jimmy Choo feels “privileged to be among the fashion greats who have been affiliated with H&M so far, and to be designing a collection appealing to fashion savvy, street smart women, and to be including some great pieces for men, too. Jimmy Choo will bring to H&M a sophisticated, fashion forward, accessible and glamorous collection – the perfect party pieces to buy now and then wear out that night!”

It’s interesting that unlike the other limited edition collection where accessories were designed to complement the clothes (i.e. studded belts at Matthew Williamson), Jimmy Choo has opted to design clothing to complement the accessories.  Why not just focus on what the brand does best and eschew clothing all together? Does this perhaps mean we can expect Jimmy Choo to branch out into clothing in the future? In any case, we are excited to see what the collection has in store for shoppers.

For H&M’s part, Margareta van den Bosch, the retailer’s creative advisor said in a press release – “we adore Jimmy Choo’s shoes and bags. They are glamorous and sexy, and they add instant style to the simplest of outfits. I like the way we have worked with clothes to accessorize the shoes and bags, rather than the other way around. This collaboration is particularly exciting because it’s our first shoe designer collection. It’s a joy to be able to offer top end designer shoes and bags of excellent quality to our customers.”

The collection will arrive in 250 H&M stores around the world on November 14.
