BEACHWEAR FOR DEACON

Giles Deacon has a rich background in fashion. He worked for the likes of Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, Bottega Veneta, Gucci, and Louis Vuitton before branching out on his own in 2003 (he showed his first collection in 2004).

Shortly after, in 2006, the British designer won the prestigious title of British Fashion Designer of the Year at the British Fashion Awards. Since then, Giles Deacon has continually expanded – he began designing for New Look and has had tremendous success with his Gold collection.

Now Deacon is going even further. He has just come out with a beachwear collection for the high street superstore. The covetable collection includes beach bags, kaftans, flip-flops, bikinis and swimsuits and just launched this month at select New Look stores. The collection will also be available on New Look’s website.

Lucky for the designer, he was able to do his research by doing some poolside lounging of his own. Deacon told Vogue.com that the whole line was designed while on a research trip to Los Angeles where he hung out by the pool at the Chateau Marmont. He added that for him, his new beachwear collection is not so much eighties-inspired, “but more a mix of clean lines and graphic boldness with a touch of playfulness. Design-led swimwear is a must for this season – not only in the pool but for poolside bar action.”

As for who the designer would like to see in his designs, he singles out Agyness Deyn, Lily Allen, Beth Ditto, and January Jones.
