London Fashion Week has always lacked the big name designers and allure to ignite the same buzz that Fashion Weeks in New York, Paris, and Milan have long had. But all that might change come the Spring/Summer 2010 collection season. Burberry and Matthew Williamson have both just announced that they will be heading to London, all but assuring the attendance of all the major book’s heavyweight editors and the star-studded front rows that have become staples at both Matthew Williamson and Christopher Bailey’s shows.
Williamson usually shows in New York while Bureberry has typically shown in Milan. In light of the 25th anniversary of London Fashion Week, Burberry will close (London Fashion Week will run from September 18th through the 22nd) by being the last to show. The iconic British fashion house also plans on hosting an event at their new London headquarters following the runway presentation.
As for British designer Mathew Williamson, he has said that London has always been very special to him since holding his first show there in 1997 and he has added that he is especially “proud to be a part of this in the British Fashion Council’s 25th year.”
Another designer turning to their home turf is Christian Dior. The house just revealed the location for their Fall/Winter 09-10 couture collection, and it will take place at the first Christian Dior store in Paris at 30 Avenue Montaigne. The boutique became Dior’s headquarters in late 1946.
