Betty Jackson is undeniably one of Britain’s most prominent and internationally respected designers. So it is no wonder that everyone was extremely excited to see her new collection for Autumn/Winter. Experimental cutting and understated elegance are two features signature to her designs, dressing an individual and intelligent woman. She’s been showing at London Fashion Week since the beginning, 25 years ago.
Betty Jackson, who was awarded an MBE in 1987, had a lot of expectations this season which she met with a well constructed collection, modeled by a variety of well known models such as Jourdan Dunn.
Described as her “best collection in years”, Betty Jackson presented a number of garments, experimenting with a variety of different fabrics. Angora knits, satin, panne velvet, wool, and a spotty foulard-silk are but some of the fabrics in the collection.
Her inspiration was “romance, innocence and surrealism.” This is demonstrated with pure colourings and romantic silhouettes.
Her design signatures “textures and prints, soft volume and relaxed glamour” were definitely present. The collection featured a variety of glamourous, textured and printed garments, with a beautifully executed volume to the pieces.
The colour palette was concentrated on pale blue, egg yolk yellow, chestnut, teal, and some black and white thrown in for good measure. High waisted pencil skirts, cropped long sleeve jumpers, and beautifully structured skirts with interesting silhouettes were featured.
There was also a substantial focus on prints, ranging from cute spotted fabrics to artistic florals.
The mix of pieces showcased excellent styling. A lemon, short sleeved jumper was teamed with a delphinium blue pencil skirt and a brown spotted silk dress showing us a glimpse of black and white ruffles in the long sleeve, fit for the Betty Jackson woman.
Overall, the collection boasted an excellent colour palette, a variety of different prints and textures, and maintained the relaxed glamour signature to her designs. And yes, it was most definitely her “best collection in years”.
