Fashionistas, press, and buyers all gathered in the British Fashion Council Marquee to witness the launch of Eun Jeong. Model Erin O’Connor and Daily Telegraph Fashion Director Hilary Alexander were part of the crowd eagerly anticipating the new collection.
Eun Jeong dazzled the fashion industry last year, impressing noteworthy members of the fashion industry, namely Donatella Versace, with her Spring/Summer 2009 collection, and went on to win the Fashion Fringe award.
Donatella Versace chaired the Fashion Fringe event last year, and said: “Her technique and inspiration are unique and she is someone to watch in the future.”
The Korean-born designer, whose collection she aptly named “Black Vanity” showcased a variety of striking silhouettes. Strong design took centre stage, which was emphasized by a unique color palette.
Exquisitely draped gowns in flesh pink and black varied from asymmetrical straps, bandeau and beaded embellishments. The elaborate adornments on the dress were a major attraction – beads, lace, appliqué, crystals and embroidery enhanced the expert drapery of the garments.
Jeong’s understanding of fabric, and what looks good on a women are what make her designs desirable. Her appreciation of drapery and folding techniques are evident in sophisticated silhouettes which flatter the feminine form with elegance and hold maximum appeal.
Silk crepe and georgette were draped and moved to one side to form her take on the fashion classic, the Little Black Dress.
But it wasn’t all dresses and gowns. The collection also featured Eun Jeong’s take on new “it-item”, the harem trouser, created out of silk and georgette.
Embroidery was definitely a design focal point when regarding this collection, and was used on the inside of oversized hoods on tailored coats and jackets, further improved by the use of a fruity and fun strawberry pink colour.
One of my favourite pieces in the collection was a skilfully cut pale taupe coat, accentuated with bands of ribbons and lace on each shoulder.
Overall, Jeong showcased a number of beautiful, fashion forward garments, boasting powerful design, expert drapery technique and delicate femininity. Her aesthetic is fresh and focused. So much was expected of her latest collection, and she definitely lived up to that.
