Though I could have done without the rosettes that adorned the necks and waists of many of the models walking down the runway at the D&G Spring 2009 show (and the fishnet stockings for that matter), they undeniably fit into the collection’s theme.
In fact, overall, the nautical-heavy (think anchors, stripes, sailor knots), French Rivera-inspired collection was wonderfully optimistic, fresh, young, and best of all – fun and well styled.
Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, who were clearly inspired by Coco Chanel for some of their looks, in particular tweed cardigans paired with shorts, wide-brimmed and cloche-esque hats – delivered a nice mix of the over-the-top glitz and glam we have come to expect from the design duo along with more toned-down wholly wearable looks.
