It’s always a bit of a shock to go from New York and London to Milan. Italian designers subscribe less to the trends of the season and at Moschino we saw an expected mélange of influences. From toreadors to cowboys, there was a definite notion of playing dress up in the Moschino collection. Italian design houses, even the younger ones such as Moschino, have the heritage background that a lot of New York and London designers don’t, so they don’t feel the need to please the press as much. Everyone knows that Moschino can make a beautifully cut pant, glamorous cocktail dress, or flirty knee length skirt, so when those staples are shown with a fringed cowboy jacket, few are surprised.
