Nine West deserves two thumbs up for going out on a limb and partnering with designers that, while well known in the fashion community, are far from being mainstream household names. After launching their “shoelaboration” program with a well-received collection designed by Sophie Theallet, the retailer has now partnered with Giles Deacon for a Fall collection. Not only are both designers’ collections for the retailer reflective of their personal style, they give designers like Theallet and Deacon, whose brands are still on the smaller size, the opportunity to gain the experience necessary to one day launch full fledged accessory collections.
Known for his playfully quirky aesthetic and out-of-the-box prints, Deacon designs a namesake line as well as Emanuel Ungaro, which he took over after the embarrassing dismissal of Estrella Archs and Lindsay Lohan. The designer came up with a ten-piece collection for Nine West that includes shoes, bags, and jewelry ranging in price from $99 to $149. Deacon fans will be happy to see that it prominently features Eek – the cartoonish character that Deacon has used in his high-end collections in the past (a personal favorite was this Fall 2010 handbag and this Spring 2011 sweater vest — if you’re going to go bold, go bold all the way, right?)
It’s worth pointing out that while the totes look like everyday day bags, they’re actually designed to be laptop bags.
The Giles Deacon for Nine West footwear collection retails for $99 to $149 for footwear, $99 for handbags and $26 to $34 for jewelry.
