Daphne Guinness Preps for the Met Gala at Barneys; Dolce and Gabbana Throw a Party for Justin Bieber

In a recent interview, Carine Roitfeld conceded that fast fashion isn’t that much of a problem because “fashion stopped being a matter of money a long time ago; it’s a matter of taste.” Those are comforting words, but they probably ring a little false to anyone that’s been accosted by the sea of tacked-on ruffles shedding sequins at a Forever 21. The foremost requirement for having “taste” is liking well made clothing, which is, unfortunately, few and far between at budget prices. [Spiegel]

In honor of the upcoming Royal Wedding, British Vogue‘s May issue is a wedding dress bonanza filled with enough princess-ready white gowns to make your head spin. The issue opted for three covers with dresses by Vivienne Westwood, Bruce Oldfield, and Oscar de la Renta. British Vogue‘s Editor-in-Chief, Alexandra Shulman, said she called in tons of gowns (what fun!) and chose the three prettiest ones for the covers. Since the princess-to-be, Kate Middleton, consulted Shulman while picking her dress for the big day, look forward to a lot of Royal Wedding speculation when the issue hits newstands on Thursday. Now that Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana have been cleared of tax evasion charges, the designer duo is living it up by throwing lavish parties for pint-sized pop stars. Dolce and Gabbana hosted an afterparty for Justin Bieber at their Milan restaurant, Gold. The heartthrob showed up wearing head-to-toe Dolce & Gabbana and looking ridiculous. The fashion world’s weird obsession with the teenage energizer bunny (remember his Love magazine cover?) finally proves that the entire industry is basically just a twelve-year-old girl. [Racked]

Forget what you’ve heard about horizontal stripes: they aren’t evil and they don’t make you seem heavier – and frankly, stop worrying so much because you look great. Besides, Carine Roitfeld says that “it’s often the case that what a women reads makes her more attractive and more elegant than what she wears.” And I’m wearing black-and-white horizontal stripes right this second, sitting in a room filled with books, and I feel pretty great, so obviously I’m doing something right (although I’m not really seeing anyone, and maybe that’s because horizontal stripes aren’t very flattering?) Basically, I’m just saying that you should take everything you read with a grain of salt and wear things you really love, and you’ll be fine. [MillionLooks]
