Her collections tread the fine line between avant-garde and eccentric, ensuring that her loyal fan base is pleased while not alienating any of her more conservative and hesitant customers.
With the exception of a Chanel-like yeti jumpsuit that probably is best kept for the editorial pages, Demeulemeester’s Fall collection was filled with thoughtfully draped dresses and motorcycle cut jackets set to be bestsellers for Fall. This season has been packed with designers ignoring the season and showing outerwear-less collections, but not Demeulemeester.
The edgy designer’s outerwear is one of the elements of her collection that can often target customers outside her regular client base and between the colored fur and smooth leathers, this season’s offering of outerwear is of paramount importance to the collection’s success. The pairing of lush leather, feathers, and intricate laces with the models’ natural makeup and raven accented hair resulted in a show set for rave reviews and commercial success.
