It is rare that a young designer such as Canadian-born Mark Fast can define a signature aesthetic in just a few years. His trademark cobweb knits, famous for their intricacy as well as penchant for being revealing, have become iconic and machine knitwear designers all over the world are compared to him. There has been controversy with models, as the designer has often chosen to show on a variety of body sizes, but Fast’s client base has remained loyal, and if the buzzworthy, and packed, show this season is any indication there is no end in sight.
The collection was entitled ‘A wolf in sheep’s clothing’ and it could not have been more accurately described; the juxtaposition of bondage leather with fluffy knit wool, and the models’ slightly crazed look, worked to aid the palpable buzz in the presentation space.
This season he integrated new textures, resulting in covetable outerwear, by using textiles such as heavier wool and leather. This allowed for more wearable silhouettes, such as an oversized accordion-knit cardigan, that when paired with his luxury hosiery line, Faster, result in a more covered but equally intriguing look.
