John Rocha Fall 2011 Runway Review

A darker palette is nothing shocking for designer John Rocha whose tailored feminine looks have been well recieved for years, but this season’s collection was well executed, even if slightly boring, and the result of a clear vision for the season. It was a story of texture for the designer with everything from heavily-worked wool to silk georgette, making an appearance on the mainly black and nude collection.

Rocha, whose daughter Simone is set to impress again this season at Fashion East, is renowned for making wearable clothing, and the outerwear was by far the standout of this collection. The elegant full-skirted jackets, whether in black, nude, or red, truly showed the designer’s roots in womenswear and are sure to be best selling pieces.

A sprinkling of menswear was intermittently presented, as we have seen a lot of this week, but in this case it might have been better to show the men’s collection separately as they merely walked the line between moderately trendy and just plain forgettable.
