Badgley Mischka is not an everyday ready-to-wear label; to be honest, the client base isn’t always clear. Celebrities and socialites alike covet their red carpet gowns and the designing duo is sure to please that clientele with their Fall collection, but it’s often unclear who really wears them. It’s better off that the daywear was minimal this season because after the impressive showings by Carolina Herrera and Thakoon, sophisticated uptown women already have their pick of collections filled with refined daywear.
Statement colored accessories, including super saturated opera gloves, accentuated the collection that consisted mainly of eveningwear with just a few looks for day, and the notion of glamour was evident with strategic cuts that revealed subtle jewels and more than a hint of glitter.
The Catherine Deneuve inspired rolled chignons worked well alongside mesh headpieces, hats, and rhinestone accents to complete the look. As we have seen on a few runways this season, the pair showed bustles, this time on the side, that added dramatic volume to the gem toned gowns. The collection’s major fault was that it lacked the contemporary edge we have come to expect of most NYFW designers, perhaps if the pair stepped up their daywear, the collection would be more relevant.
