New York Fashion Week Fall 2011 Recap: Derek Lam, Alexander Wang, Vivienne Tam, Charlotte Ronson

It’s Day 4 of New York Fashion Week. Here are some highlights:

Derek Lam

For his namesake collection this season, Derek Lam was inspired by a woman who knows what she likes when it comes to fashion, “a definitive dresser,” and after his Fall 2011 show it’s pretty clear that many women will want Derek Lam in their closets – and lots of it.

Alexander Wang

With a high-profile spread in the current issue of New York Magazine, GQ’s best new menswear designer win in tow, and the upcoming opening of his first stand-alone store, Alexander Wang is riding high, and it showed, with what is widely being considered one of his best collections to date.

Vivienne Tam

It may be a collection mostly comprised of black, but this doesn’t mean the designs are simple. Vivienne Tam’s Fall 2011 collection was all about the little details. The vintage-inspired line featured lace appliqué, fringe hems and shimmering fabrications. Tam’s signature straight silhouettes and kimono dresses were shown in cool tweeds and intricate silk prints for an updated twist on her classic style.

Charlotte Ronson

Following her debut at the Richard Chai Love show, Charlotte Free made yet another runway appearance – pink tresses and all – at this season’s Fall 2011 Charlotte Ronson show. Given the attention Free’s hair has gotten and combined with the pink wig Lady Gaga donned for next month’s Vogue cover, it wouldn’t be surprising to see a sharp increase in red manes in the coming months. Hair aside, Ronson showed a seemingly grunge-inspired collection with a bountifully wearable mix of mossy green separates, black leather and lace skirts, tops and jackets, flared 70s trousers, knit hats, boho maxi skirts, and ripped tights.
